Business Card Finishing

In addition to our standard offering, we are also able to offer a variety of different finishes including:

  Creasing

  Corner Rounding

Because we use a precision cutting device to trim our cards (Duplo DC-645), our standard business cards sizes are 55mm x 90mm, 54mm x 90mm and 50mm x 90mm however if you require business cards cut to a different size, please contact our office on (02) 8012 6870 to make these arrangements.

Business Card Layout - Hints and Tips

The following diagram highlights some basic layout rules to ensure that your final card layout is the best it can be:

  Bleed

Your artwork needs to be a certain size to print correctly. For business cards it is 95mm x 60mm. Part of this size is what we call the “Bleed” which will be trimmed off. The bleed area is 2.5mm on each side.

We strongly recommend keeping a 3mm internal margin for a "Safe Printing Zone". Keep text, logos or important graphics away from the bleed line as trimming can have natural variations in accuracy.

  Guides and Marks

Please don't include any guides, marks, or crop marks in your artwork. If you do include printable guidelines on your artwork, then they may show up in your proof and your final print.

  Resolution

Images such as photos in your artwork must have a minimum resolution of 300dpi (dots per inch). Images that have a lower resolution may print pixelated or fuzzy.

Images taken from the internet often have a resolution of only 72dpi and will very rarely print very well.

  Colour Format

Our Digital printing uses a CMYK colour format (Cyan, Magenta, Yellow and Black). The colours on your screen are RGB colours (Red, Green, Blue).

Some RGB colours that appear on your screen can not be printed in CMYK. You must be careful when selecting colours on your printing, as some colours will print “dull” when compared to your computer screen.

In the diagram below, the colours on top are RGB colours as you seen on your computer screen. When printed in CMYK, they would appear as the colours on the bottom, slightly duller.

Programs such as Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator can convert all colours to CMYK. Our RIP process also converts RGB to CMYK, however the colour rendition of the finished artwork will vary slightly.

GBC Delta Celloglazing Machine - 30 Metres Per minute

Frequently Asked Questions about Celloglazing

For those customers that are interested in the processes surrounding celloglazing, here are some of the common questions asked about celloglazing - the basics...

1. Why Celloglaze?

To give printed matter a high quality effect (including colour enhancement and image contrast) and/or to protect and preserve the media from moisture, and creasing, stains, smudges that may occur through frequent handling

Celloglazing is usually quick and easy with immediate results, and is relatively inexpensive

2. What items can be celloglazed?

Celloglazing is most popular for book covers, company brochures, presentation folders, and business cards, gift cards, postcards etc

3. What celloglaze films are used in our processes?

High Tack Lay Flat Roll Films (Digital Films) – (also known as "curl free" films) is made from Nylon and is used when the materials have been produced on digital printers or where curling of lightweight stocks post lamination is an issue. This film type is relatively more expensive than offset films

BOPP Thermal Film (Offset Films) – Cello film (as in celloglaze) is a general term covering all BOPP films (BOPP = biaxially oriented polypropylene). In its “thermal” form, the film has a heat-activated adhesive component, is typically around 30 micron in gauge and is ideal for the high-speed single-sided lamination process at relatively low temperatures (90-100°C). It provides an impressive finish, has excellent folding characteristics and is relatively more economical than the digital films

4. What are the main film “finishes”?

  Gloss - a very shiny/glossy surface

Matt - aimed at achieving a very flat look, often with a silky feel

5. What are the standard film sizes?

Our celloglaze films come in rolls from 310mm wide & 445mm in lengths of 1,000m (on 76mm core)

6. How is film thickness measured?

Film thickness, or gauge, is measured in microns (or μm). There are 1000 microns (or μm) to a millimetre

The Digital Films used by Projective Short Run Printing are 42.5 μm whilst the Offset (BOPP) films are 26μm & 28μm
